Périple

Privacy policy

The French version prevails.

Who is responsible

Périple is published by Benoît Loffet, as a private individual. For any question about your data: contact@periple.me.

The data Périple keeps

  • Your email address, to send you the sign-in link. If you sign in with Google, Google also passes on your name. With “Sign in with Apple”, Apple passes on your email address (or a relay address if you choose to hide it) and, the first time, your name.
  • Your display name, so the crew recognises you.
  • What you add to your profile, if you fill it in: phone, town, diet and allergies, a short bio, and an emergency contact (the name and phone number of someone close).
  • If you turn on notifications: your phone's notification address (in the iPhone app: the identifier Apple gives it), to send you the crew's news. Messages go through your phone's or browser's notification service (Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft). You can turn them off at any time in your profile.
  • What the crew adds to the trip: dates, stages, GPX tracks, places to stay, votes, gear, expenses, vault documents, journal and photos.
  • The iPhone app keeps the same data as the website, nothing more: the camera and your photos are only used when you choose a photo (journal, vault, receipt). No audience measurement, no advertising.

Who sees what

  • Members of a trip see the other members' profiles, including phone, diet, allergies and emergency contact: that's what helps if something goes wrong. The offline notebook keeps the crew's numbers on each member's phone, along with the Practical info and the vault documents (30 MB per trip at most), deleted when you sign out.
  • The shared summary (the link for family, no account) only shows your number if you turn on “Show my number in the shared summary”.
  • Allergies can be health data: only enter what's useful to the group. Your emergency contact may not use Périple: let them know before giving their number.

Why

Only to run the service you use: organising a trip with your friends. No advertising, no marketing, and your data is never sold.

Where it is stored

  • Database and files: Supabase, in its European Union region, in Paris.
  • Application: Vercel, with servers in Frankfurt. Vercel is an American company.
  • Sign-in emails: Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.), an American company.
  • Notifications, if you turn them on: your phone's or browser's notification service (Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft, American companies) carries the message to you.

These providers process the data on Périple's behalf. For the American companies, the transfer outside the European Union relies on their data protection commitments (the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework).

How long

As long as your account exists. You can delete it at any time from your profile: your account, your profile, your personal lists, your journal and your votes are erased immediately, as well as your email in the technical sign-in log. Your trips pass to another member; those where you were alone are deleted. In shared trips, your expenses, suggestions and vault documents (with their files: receipts, photos of places to stay, GPX tracks) remain, signed “Former member”, so that the crew's accounts and organisation stay right.

The database's automatic backups (managed by Supabase) may keep this data a few more days, until they are renewed.

Cookies

Périple only uses the session cookies needed to sign in. No advertising or audience-measurement cookies: that's why there is no cookie banner.

For offline use, your phone keeps a copy of the notebook of the trips you opened last. It is deleted when you sign out.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete or retrieve your data: write to contact@periple.me, answer within 30 days.

You can also contact your country's data protection authority (in France the CNIL, in Belgium the Data Protection Authority).
